July 13, 2021 – Starting on July 28, El Paso County Department of Public Works’ Contractor, HEI Civil, will close access to New Meridian Road north and south of US 24 and temporarily realign both travel lanes of US 24 between Falcon Highway and Old Meridian Rd for approximately three days from July 28th to 30th, depending on weather. Traffic on US 24 will be shifted to the northeast-bound lanes and will be limited to one lane each direction and left and right turns will be temporarily prohibited in either direction throughout the intersection.
During the closure, crews will construct roadway improvements along both sides of US 24 and conduct leveling within the New Meridian intersection for the opening of both acceleration and deceleration lanes for the intersection in connection with the US 24 and Meridian Road Improvements Project.

Work on this project consists of:
• Connecting “New” Meridian Road to US 24 and extending it to Falcon Highway;
• Creating a full movement signalized intersection at “New” Meridian Road and US 24;
• Converting the full movement “Old” Meridian Road and US 24 intersection to right-in/right-out access only; and
• Constructing a Park-n-Ride facility south of US 24 adjacent to “New” Meridian and “Old” Meridian. Future updates will be provided as the project transitions through each phase.

Detour information: (Detour map attached)
• Motorists shall follow the detour to access the north side of Old Meridian Road and New Meridian Road using US 24, Woodmen Road, and McLaughlin Road.
• Access to the south side of Old & New Meridian Road shall be detoured along Falcon Highway.
• Access to the S Business at the south side of the Old Meridian intersection will remain open during the closure but can only be accessed from the northeast-bound lane of US 24.
• Left turns on and off US 24 to and from Old Meridian will not be available during this closure.

Typical work hours are from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., Monday through Friday. Limited weekend or night work is possible. All work is dependent on weather and resource availability. The construction schedule is subject to change. Project completion is anticipated in Fall 2021. Updates will be provided as the project progresses.

Drivers are reminded to reduce speeds and to watch for workers, equipment, signs, and barricades. El Paso County wishes to thank drivers in advance for their cooperation. Cautious and attentive driving within the project area will ensure the safety and efficient completion of this project.
Funding for this project is provided by the Pikes Peak Rural Transportation Authority (PPRTA), the Federal Highway Association, and El Paso County.
