What's Happening

Beacon Lite Road Improvement Project

El Paso County is upgrading Beacon Lite Road from gravel to asphalt and improving curves, grades, and drainage. The project will deliver a smoother, safer corridor with better stormwater control and easier winter maintenance.

Early work has begun with activity picking up by the end of October.

Project Location Map. The blue line marks project limits along Beacon Lite Road between Bricker Road and Wakonda Way, near I-25. The orange dashed line shows the new roadway section that straightens the southern curve. Labels include Palmer Divide Road, Bricker Road, and Wakonda Way. North arrow shown.

This Year's Focus (Fall and Winter 2025)

  • Begin construction of a new roadway section to straighten the sharp bend on the south end of Beacon Lite Road, improving sight distance and safety.
  • Tree removal on the east and west sides of Beacon Lite Road. Crews will remove only trees marked for construction or safety. Work areas will be signed, and traffic will be guided through as needed.
  • Utility relocations along the corridor. Utility crews will be working in short segments to move lines out of the future roadway and drainage footprint. If a service interruption is required, the utility provider will give advance notice.
  • South Pond and storm infrastructure south of Wakonda Way. Construction of a detention pond and new stormwater conveyance will begin in this area to prepare the corridor for full roadwork.

When You Will See Activity

  • Crews will be in the area intermittently through the winter for tree work, utility relocations, and stormwater construction.
  • Full roadway construction is planned for spring 2026, weather and schedule permitting.

What to Expect During Early Work

  • Short, intermittent lane shifts with flaggers where crews are active.
  • Construction vehicles entering and exiting the roadway.
  • Noise from saws, chippers, and excavation during daylight work hours. Work hours are from 7:00 am to 5:00 pm M-F. Should weekend work occur, you will be notified ahead of time.
  • Access to homes and businesses will be maintained. If a driveway needs a brief adjustment, the team will coordinate with you in advance.
  • Contact by the project team for property impacts or coordination.
