Full Closure of Beacon Lite Road Begins July 20
Beginning Monday, July 20, at 8 a.m., Beacon Lite Road will be fully closed to through traffic in both directions between Palmer Divide Road and Wakonda Way while crews complete waterline and storm sewer installation.
The road is anticipated to remain continuously closed to through traffic for approximately three to four months, extending into the fall, as crews complete four consecutive phases of utility work.
Completing the waterline and storm sewer installation concurrently will allow crews to work more efficiently and accelerate completion of this portion of the project.
Why the closure is needed:
This temporary traffic pattern supports both efficiency and safety. Completing work more quickly reduces the length of time the traveling public is exposed to construction activities. It also moves traffic farther from active work areas and reduces the need for narrow lanes with two-way traffic through the work zone.
Work planned during this closure:
During this period, crews will focus on earthwork, utility relocations, and storm sewer installations while completing the east half of the roadway alignment to subgrade elevation. Once the east half is completed, work will shift to the west half of the roadway. At that time, northbound traffic will continue to use the signed detour, and southbound traffic will continue to travel on Beacon Lite Road through the work zone.
Phase 2 Traffic Changes Begin August 17:
- Beginning Monday, August 17, at 8 a.m., crews will transition into Phase 2 of waterline and storm sewer work on the Beacon Lite Road Improvement Project.
- Beacon Lite Road will remain closed to through traffic through the project area while local access to homes and businesses is maintained.
Wakonda Way Storm Sewer Work
- During Phase 2, crews will shift their focus to storm sewer installation on Wakonda Way.
- Local Traffic Only barricades will remain in place at the south fork of Wakonda Way, and through traffic will continue to follow the signed detour.
