The County Engineer manages El Paso County public roads and bridges, ensuring they meet safety standards and rules. This role includes planning road and bridge improvements, coordinating maintenance, obtaining funding, overseeing construction projects, and making sure that our County roads comply with state and federal safety requirements.

The County Engineer works closely with the Planning and Community Development Department to review new development projects. Planning El Paso County’s future transportation networks is another core function of the County Engineer and Engineering staff regularly meet with community groups such as the Highway Advisory Commission (HAC), Pikes Peak Rural Transportation Authority (PPRTA), and the El Paso County Planning Commission to share information and listen to community input related to these efforts.

The County Engineer also handles stormwater management, conveyance and compliance, ensuring the county follows national rules to prevent water pollution.
